weekend

a belated happy mother's day to everyone! mine was pretty close to perfect: my mom was here, along with my dad and one of my two favorite bruddies. m and bean made amazingly delicious vegan pumpkin waffles and fruit salad for breakfast, there were plenty of dogs around, and the weather was perfect. we got our dumpster on friday (!), and we put david and my dad to work this weekend, helping us fill it up. on saturday we loaded in brush, logs, leaves, and assorted yard crap which has been lying around back there for years. m and david also dragged all the fence parts blown down by last month's storm out to the street for this week's bulk pickup. yesterday we added random weird trash found in the garage and basement. there are few things in life more satisfying than flinging trash into your very own dumpster, let me tell you. although now it looks like we're being evicted. i'll take a photograph, you'll see.

we also got to the beach twice this weekend, cause it would've been mean to make david fly all the way up here and then force him to do nothing but work the whole time. friday night we took a picnic to kettle cove, and saturday we went back with dogs and a frisbee. after mom, dad, and lulu went home on sunday, we went up to wolfe's neck park for a walk and to l.l. bean for david to buy himself some outerwear.

Tonight, as we were eating dinner, Lucky Pierre said "What's that big dumpster doing in front of Zoe's house?" Miss Gliss and I, having read your blog, replied "They're throwing stuff out--stuff from the back yard and stuff from the house." Pierre replied "But it's a BIG dumpster!" He went on to say that he wished he had a dumpster to fill, right before he showed me the glass shelves, from our former medicine cabinet, that he had washed and was planning to store in the basement. And, totally off the subject, but not really, because those shelves are getting recycled, did you know that now, you can just put all your recycling, including plastics #1 through #7, paper, glass, TOGETHER in a garbage can without a lid? AND you don't have to cut up cardboard anymore--they can take cardboard boxes up to 6 feet!

EVERYONE'S jealous of our dumpster! i am amazed how many people have an unfulfilled dream of renting their very own big dumpster.

i did not know that about recycling -- so we can really recycle all the plastics? that's the thing i'm the most excited about. my trash is going to be so much smaller now.

Every single plastic! Even the drink containers from Udder Place, etc. And yogurt containers! And all in the same receptacle! I know I'm a bit over-excited about this, but I think it's really going to make a difference. And no separating paper (or anything else) anymore!!!!

i agree! sweet lulu is much more interesting than recycling! and lizzie, i have a confession to make...my mother's day trip to the nursery yielded several dusty miller plants!!!! it's a new variety...all lacey and pretty! i thought of caramoor and you, and how hard you would laugh if you saw me guiltily sneaking the DM into my pile...i didn't want any of the perennial snobs to see me!

i need to see photographic evidence of this so-called pretty dusty miller to truly believe...
