no news from bean yet, though sources tell me that her plane did, in fact, land at heathrow at 5:30ish BST. their plan was to be met by a car at the airport, which would take them to the hover, which would take them out to the isle of wight. i am pretty much keeping my cell phone glued to the palm of my hand today, not wanting to miss her call when/if it comes!

South Portland: Ceremony marks opening of South Portland Netflix hub
Netflix, the world's largest online DVD movie rental service, will celebrate the opening of its Maine distribution center today at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in South Portland.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, will use a Hollywood-style clapboard to cut a long strand of red Netflix envelopes. Netflix co-founder, chairman and CEO Reed Hastings will also be at the event.
The center, one of 40 distribution hubs nationally, opened in April with six employees.
The hub allows most Maine customers to receive DVDs the next day, said company spokesman Steve Swasey.
Prior to April, Maine residents received their DVDs from Netflix's hub in Worcester, Mass.
The South Portland center is located at 125 John Roberts Road, No. 17. The ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m.
um...i don't understand. why does this event require a ribbon cutting and a united states senator, plus the ceo of netflix? it appears to me to be a net gain of a grand total of SIX jobs for the state of maine, the only excitement being that netflix customers will supposedly get their movies faster. that, as we all know, is pretty much a big fat lie.

bean just called on a scratchy overseas phone line!! she is in fantastic spirits and LOVES everything so far. i don't want to give away all the details, but i will say that highlights of day one include: a man holding a sign with adam's name on it who met them at the airport and drove them (on the left side of the road) to the hover; a meal at a pub; queen victoria's summer home. she said she is going to try to post on her blog while they're on the island, so watch for more exciting details.
