j's yummy rice
at my brother's house, there is a dish famously known as "mommy's yummy rice." j shared her secret recipe with us at christmas this year, which involves trader joe's yellow thai sauce and coconut milk. i'm out of coconut milk, so last night i used soy milk instead, and let me be the first to tell you that it was delicious. we stir-fried some sweet potato, cauliflower, broccoli, and peas, applied a hearty dose of yummy sauce, and served it with brown basmati rice. bean has added this to her list of favorite foods, right up there with indian carry-out.
i must apologize now, because it's evident that all we've been doing lately is eating and playing clue, and how breathtakingly fun those activities must be to read about! i would promise to do something more exciting today, but the weather report calls for more rain, and there's not much on the agenda of thrills (driving bean to piano lesson and dance class; making caramel apples from a packaged kit which boo excavated from the back of the pantry...). i'll do my best. but jeeze, it's a wednesday, what can you really expect?
