attempting to fight the inevitable post-christmas lethargy and general blues (at least on my part), we went for a walk on a very cold new year's eve day. m was itching for an adventure, but the rest of us cramped his style and we only got as far as the dog park and two lights state park. minnow was pretty happy at dog heaven, but i really think he missed miles. the two of them are a perfect dog park match, because miles pretends he's a wild leaping gazelle and minnow follows (getting much more exercise than he would otherwise), and minnow pretty much comes when called, inspiring miles to do the same, more or less.

after the fancy dog park, we went to look at the ocean. the sky was doing pretty things, and i couldn't help thinking about how far away a, j, j, and o are right now, at the other end of this enormous continent...
